What your skin needs in your 20s isn’t the same as in your 50s. Here are 5 skincare rules that you must follow to look gorgeous at every age.
Skincare is a journey and you should enjoy every aspect of it while doing your best to take care of yourself and your skin. Check out these simple skincare rules that experts swear by to change your beauty game.
1. Skincare is personal
Yes, you heard that right. Both skincare and beauty are very personal because what may work for you, might not work for someone else. Our skin is constantly changing. You might love using certain products and ingredients in your 20s but as you age, it will change and that’s okay.
2. Sunscreen is non-negotiable
The most important thing you can do for your skin is to protect it from the sun. UV rays damage collagen and cause wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, brown spots, and uneven texture. To prevent sun damage, it is advised to wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30+ every single day, rain or shine.
3. Focus on the basics
You don’t need an expensive serum or a face mask in your skincare routine no matter how old you are. Focus on a cleanser, an exfoliant, a moisturizer and a sunscreen. If you have hyperpigmentation or acne, add in a treatment step like a salicylic acid based toner or a niacinamide serum.
4. Ditch makeup wipes, and start proper cleansing
Makeup wipes can be very harsh and honestly, they don’t even cleanse your skin. Use them in emergencies or when you are traveling, but on a daily basis, wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove all the impurities.
5. When in doubt, see a dermatologist
It can be hard to understand what’s going on on our skin at times. Conditions like fungal acne, cystic acne, milea are really hard to treat and before you try to fix it yourself, seek your dermatologist’s help.
