Cleansing is the foundation of your skincare routine.

Most of the time, people wonder why their skincare products aren’t showing any results, but surprisingly, they are doing the first step of their routine wrong. Let’s find out if you are cleansing your skin wrong.

1. Washing it too soon

Cleansers have surfactants that foam up and clean our skin, but they need some time to work properly. You are not supposed to wash your face immediately after applying a cleanser. Instead, you should massage it for at least 30 seconds before rinsing. An easier way to do is to count till 10 very slowly.

 

2. Using makeup wipes

Makeup wipes give you a false sense of security that your face is clean and ready for the next steps in your skincare routine. But that’s not true. They just smear the makeup and grime all over the face and aren’t as effective as a cleanser. They are also pretty harsh and can strip your skin and disrupt your barrier.

 

3. Choose the right cleanser

There are tons of cleansers out there, but not all of them are meant for you. Dry skin types will benefit the most from cream cleansers. The key here is to apply them on dry skin, and then add water to clean your skin. Oily and combination skin types can use either gel or foaming cleansers. Foaming cleansers aren’t always stripping and drying, choose formulas that are hydrating. Lastly, an oil based cleanser or balm is a great way to get makeup, sunscreen and impurities off of your face and leave your skin nourished.
