Get Set to Go-Morning Stretches

Do you wake up with aching muscles and feeling tired? This is potentially caused by less physical activity or working on a computer for longer hours. Which is why morning stretches are a great way to ease yourself into the day, loosen the muscles, release stress and improve posture.

Kick-start your day with these stretches and feel energized. They take less than ten minutes and here’s how you can do them too.

1. Shoulder stretch

Relax your shoulder blades and reach one arm across your body. Gently use your other arm to deepen the stretch. Hold for 15-20 seconds and repeat on the other side.

2. Side stretch

Keep your knees straight. Stretch one arm straight above your head. Grip the wrists and gently pull the stretched arm toward the other side, feeling a deep stretch along the side of your body. Hold for 10-15 seconds and repeat on the other side.

3. Neck Stretch

Relax your shoulders and gently move your head towards your left shoulder. Use your left arm to help and hold for 15-20 seconds. Repeat on the other side

4. Knee-to-chest

Lie down flat on your back and bring one knee to your chest. Hold it in position with your arms or hands. If it feels comfortable, you can also do this stretch by bending both knees at the same time.

5. Spinal Twist

While lying down on your back, raise one of your knees, and gently roll it over to the other side. Make sure both of your shoulders stay in contact with the bed/floor at all times. Now stretch one arm out to the side, keeping it in line with your shoulders, and slowly turn your head to face your outstretched arm. Breathe deeply and repeat on the opposite side.
