Sebum production is controlled by the body’s sebaceous glands and these can become overactive in warmer weather. Sweating in the summer months can exacerbate this too. If you live in Pakistan, you know the one inevitable truth about the brutal inferno-esque summer heat – there is no escaping the oily, sweaty mess your strands become at the end of the long day.
But hey! Try these steps out to maintain your mane in the horrid weather. We promise you less grease!
1. Make Friends With Dry Shampoo
If you’re a true oil head, you need dry shampoo in your life. It helps eliminate the worst of residue on your roots and leave your hair light, clean and smelling nice! Just remember – as tempting as it is, dry shampoo is not an alternative to taking a shower! Alternatively, if you can’t get your hands on a decent dry shampoo, baby powder works just as well!
2. Don’t Brush Too Much
Brushing your hair too much stimulates the production of oil and if you have an oily scalp already, it’ll be disastrous! Don’t touch or brush too much. Use a hair pick instead to gently comb through a knot or tangle!
3. Say No To Oiling
This one’s a no-brainer but if you want to keep the grease away, definitely stay away from the oils. We do understand that the instant softness and shine oiling brings can be hard to let go – but the good news is, if you’re really used to oiling and feel like your hair may lose its look if you stop, we recommend investing in a shampoo that’ll restore only necessary moisture and shine to your hair, such as Dove’s Nourishing Oil Care Shampoo.
4. Condition Right
Only condition the ends. Too much product simply causes too much buildup in your hair and will weight it down, making it prone to oiling up at an alarming rate. Added bonus: you won’t run out of conditioner nearly as often!
5. A Magic Rinse
Apple Cider Vinegar helps balance the pH levels of your scalp. To use this method, mix 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in a cup of water. After you’re done washing your hair, pour the solution over your hair and rinse with cold water after letting it sit for 3 to 5 minutes. You can do this up to 3 times a week!
Summer means oily hair, but you can control the greasiness with these simple tips that are guaranteed to work.
