Scalp Care is Skin Care: How to Nourish and Soothe Your Scalp

That’s right! The area on top of your head deserves as much love and care as the rest of your body, and so does the hair. Hair health is very important, but in order to get healthy hair, you need to pay attention to your scalp. So, here are some tips on how to better take care of your scalp.

1. Be gentle

To start off, use gentler haircare products with nourishing, soothing, and repairing ingredients. But apart from the products you use, the way you use them matters too. Don’t scrub or scratch your scalp when you’re shampooing as it can cause abrasions. Instead, gently massage it and use side-to-side motion to increase blood circulation.

 

2. Use a scalp scrub

Sweat, dirt, styling products, and dry shampoo can stay trapped under the hair follicles and cause itchiness and flakiness. Exfoliating the scalp with a gentle scrub can get rid of impurities and potentially boost hair growth. They can also feel very relaxing and help you de-stress.

 

3. Eat probiotics, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants

Eat your way to gorgeous hair! Probiotics like yogurt and kefir help improve gut health, which eventually improves the overall health of our skin (and scalp is skin). Omega-3 fatty acids in nuts, fish, and fruits like mangoes and avocadoes can reduce hair loss and nourish the hair by stimulating circulation in the scalp. Similarly, antioxidants protect you from oxidative stress and damage. Therefore, a healthy diet is a must to get shiny, healthy hair.
